Mechanically, pneumatically and electronically controlled figures are called animatronics.

The advantage here are the remote controlled movements.  And unlike computer-animated scenes, the actors can interact with the mechanical puppets on the set, look you directly in the eye and participate without having to be animated on the computer afterwards.

There are practically no limits to the use of animatronics. From the smallest creatures such as frogs to giant dinosaurs, all creatures can be brought to life in front of the camera lens.
